Commission approves participation in CR-12 Bridge grant application to Bridge Investment Program

Commissioner Paul Kennamer moved to set aside the rules to allow the application process to proceed; Commissioner Chris Gulley seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Kennamer then moved to move forward with the application; Gulley seconded and the commission again voted affirmatively.
County staff said the application — which staff indicated will be submitted on 2026-06-28 — is part of the competitive grant process and does not commit Jackson County to fund construction if the grant is later awarded. The program was described as reimbursement-based: Lauderdale County will manage monthly reimbursement requests and Jackson County would have to front costs and be reimbursed monthly if the grant is awarded.
County Attorney John Porter was directed to finalize application paperwork and the commission recorded the unanimous votes. No funding approval was required at this work-session stage; staff will return the item as new business at the next formal meeting if further county action is needed.
Next steps: staff will file the joint application on June 28, 2026, and bring any required interlocal agreements or budget actions back to the commission if the grant is awarded.
