La Cygne makes police leadership changes amid departmental review

In November the La Cygne City Council voted to end James Dean’s tenure as police chief and then appointed Sergeant Paul Filla to the position. The motions occurred in executive session; the termination motion was adopted by the council on Nov. 3 and the appointment of Paul Filla as police chief followed. On Dec. 1 the council hired John Epperson as a full-time police officer and administered his oath of office that same night.
Police reporting earlier in the year had emphasized training and workload: Chief James Dean had told council that the department recorded "250 reports, including codes, were taken last year. So far 14 reports and 40 calls for service have been taken already this year." New Chief Paul Filla has begun inventory and transition work, and the council adjusted compensation for the new chief at the December meeting.
