The Plan Commission recommended approval of text amendments to Chapter 44 of the Green Bay Municipal Code to allow animal boarding facilities, kennels and shelters in certain mixed-use downtown districts, subject to development standards intended to limit noise and impacts on adjacent properties.
Staff described the proposed definitions and standards for boarding facilities and shelters, including requirements that boarding facilities be soundproofed so noise levels do not interfere with neighboring properties, that exercise runs be located within the building, and that dog kennels be located at least 100 feet from the boundary of the nearest residential lot. Staff said the item was noticed and no public comments were received during the hearing.
The commission voted to recommend the code changes to City Council for its Aug. 18 meeting. Commissioners clarified that the change applies to commercial boarding operations and not to an individual homeowner seeking an accommodation for a small number of pets.
