County college firing range plans adjusted after site visit; fire/rescue reports monthly call totals

Mayor T. Dooley reported that a site visit to the proposed Sussex County Community College firing range showed changes requested by the Planning Board had been implemented, including increasing berm heights from 10 to 15 feet and constructing a 14-foot backstop. The college will perform a post-construction sound study with varied firearms and testing locations to assess whether additional mitigation is needed. Officials described the facility as primarily for law-enforcement training on weekdays (approx. Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.) and not intended to be a public weekend range.
Chief D. Gunderman of Hampton Township Fire & Rescue reported EMS responded to 17 calls in the month (110 YTD) and fire responses amounted to 26 this month (139 YTD). He announced HTF&R events including Cars & Guitars on July 18 and a Chicken BBQ on July 11.
