La Cygne council buys old library to become new city hall and approves move plans

The city agreed to purchase the old library building (206 Commercial) and convert it into new city hall, authorizing staff to begin interior upgrades and equipment purchases to support the relocation. The Nov. 8 council meeting recorded the purchase agreement and subsequent council sessions approved work items including commercial carpeting, shelving, phone and server equipment, and limited renovation work.
Council accepted Carpetman’s bid for commercial carpet and approved up to $25,000 with Advantage Computers to install an IP phone system, cabling and a server for municipal IT needs. Volunteers completed major painting of the interior prior to bids being finalized; volunteers and staff coordinated to reduce costs and speed the move. “It was a big help that community volunteers painted the new city hall space,” the city clerk told the council while the building schedule was organized.
City leaders said the purchase addresses long-standing space needs, centralizes city services and will allow the historic city-hall parcel to be marketed as surplus property. The council directed staff to schedule a coordinated move and to post the office closure dates in advance to minimize customer disruption.
