KDOT outlines speed-limit, school-sign and sidewalk plans for K‑152 through La Cygne

KDOT staff briefed La Cygne council members in February on a road safety audit for K‑152 through town and recommended several changes to improve vehicle and pedestrian safety near the school and downtown. KDOT representatives said the east-edge speed limit would be reduced to 50 mph, the 30 mph zone would begin about 200 feet east of Industrial Road and that the department will provide and purchase new school-crossing signs — including solar-powered flashing signs if the city completes a formal application.
Hugh Bogle, KDOT’s presenter, told councilors that “the speed limit at east edge of town will be reduced to 50 MPH” and that KDOT would supply the city-limits signs and new school signs after an application process. Officials also flagged faded pavement school-crossing markings and offered to forward grant application forms to help the city fund sidewalk repairs leading to the school. Council members asked staff to work with public-works personnel to prioritize short segments of sidewalk and to follow KDOT’s application instructions when they arrive.
Councilors framed the audit recommendations as timely given the Highway 152 bridge project scheduled for later years. KDOT also noted funding opportunities to support pedestrian improvements, and city staff said they would circulate KDOT’s application materials with the school and park boards.
