Westford speed-feedback signs show 80 mph on Cambridge Road; board to share graphs with sheriff

Tommy O’Connor presented a month of speed-feedback-sign data to the Selectboard and highlighted two concerning peaks: a vehicle recorded at over 80 mph on Cambridge Road and a peak of 63 mph on Woods Hollow.
O’Connor explained that raw vehicle counts can be inflated by a single distant vehicle being recorded twice as it approaches the sign, but said the sign software can produce detailed graphs showing when high-speed events occur. Chair Pat Haller suggested the board export those visuals and share them with the sheriff to support targeted enforcement during peak speeding times. Resident Lori Johnson noted the Woods Hollow advisory-curve speed of 20 mph is advisory, not the enforceable 35-mph limit, and said the signage might confuse non-local users.
No enforcement action was taken by the Selectboard; they asked staff to prepare graphical reports for the sheriff and to continue monitoring data.
