The issue stemmed from the winter pulling of trail stakes, a breakdown in relations with VAST (Vermont Association of Snow Travelers) and repeated resident inquiries about why evidence had not been turned over. Selectboard member Nick Nichols said multiple residents had asked about consequences and he could not provide an answer without returning evidence to law enforcement.
Board members discussed restorative justice possibilities but concluded no restorative action had occurred. Pat Haller moved to hand the information to the county sheriff; the motion passed 5–0. Town Administrator Tommy O’Connor will transmit the evidence to the sheriff’s office and report back to the board with updates.
