Court approves workers' comp coverage for election workers and 40‑hour vacation rollover for jail employee

Brooks County Commissioners approved adding election workers to the county's workers' compensation policy following advice from the Texas Association of Counties. Horacio Villarreal III moved the motion and Martin "Marty" Cabrera seconded; the Court recorded a unanimous roll-call vote approving the change.

The Court also approved allowing a Brooks County Jail employee to roll over 40 hours of vacation time, a personnel action moved by Martin "Marty" Cabrera and seconded by Horacio Villarreal III; the motion passed unanimously. In open session the Court discussed (and later tabled) a separate item on garnishing wages for delinquent property taxes to gather additional information before taking action. "The only amount being collected would be just for County Taxes," Judge Eric Ramos said during the open-session discussion of the garnish policy before the item was tabled for further information.
