Brooks County Judge Eric Ramos told the Commissioners’ Court that engineers have been retained to evaluate the deteriorating conditions of County Roads 110 and 406 and to produce the plans required for grant applications, with a grant-application deadline in January 2025. Ramos said the engineers are requesting $25,000 up front and that the county will likely need roughly $300,000 in planning work to be competitive for external funding.
The court discussed a mix of short-term and long-term options including targeted repair work already underway (Foreman David Guerra described current road work), reassessing property appraisals, and possible targeted taxes such as sell-hunt fees to fund repairs. Ramos said he has spoken with Ryan Gillan about the possibility of drafting enabling legislation to help finance the project, but that a legislative approach would require precedent and additional planning. The discussion produced no formal motion or vote; the court noted engineers’ reports and grant applications as next steps.
