Brooks County Commissioners on Oct. 11 authorized submission of the county's 2025 RAISE grant packet, voting unanimously to approve the October 4 letter that directs staff to submit the application and related documents. Commissioner Eduardo "Eddie" Garza moved the motion and Commissioner Martin "Marty" Cabrera seconded; the motion passed on a 5–0 roll call.
Judge Eric Ramos outlined two submittal options: a full package requiring roughly $35,000 to cover submittal and supporting documents and a reduced option limited to document filing at about $4,000. He told the Court the county's Fund 13 (Grant Matching Fund) has approximately $30,000 available to apply toward match or submittal costs. "We have two options — the full submittal or the documents-only submittal — and Fund 13 currently holds about $30,000," Judge Eric Ramos said. The motion approved the October 4 letter authorizing the application process; the Court did not adopt any additional appropriation at the meeting.
The approval directs county staff to proceed with the RAISE application steps recorded in the October 4 packet. No additional budget appropriation was approved at the meeting; the Court recorded the unanimous vote but deferred any further funding decisions to a later date if needed.
