Weybridge reviews Act 181 FLUs and protected-lands maps; commissioners press for conservation and river-corridor fixes

The commission spent extended time on Draft #2 of the town’s Future Land Use (FLUs) and Protected Lands maps as part of Act 181 implementation. Gioia Kuss proposed that all of Quaker Village Road be considered for future development because existing neighborhood patterns already exist there; Dorsey Lynn Coale raised flooding concerns around Oxbow Lane and asked that River Corridors be identified on maps.
Members also noted that the FLUs map labels some land as "Rural Conservation" but does not consistently show lands subject to perpetual easements held by organizations such as the Middlebury Area Land Trust (MALT) or the Vermont Land Trust (VLT). Jeff Olson and Gale Hurd requested that conserved parcels (Collins Farm was specifically mentioned) be shown on the Protected Lands map. Danelle Birong said she would forward the requested edits to the ACRPC map specialist, who will make changes "if said requests meet the methodology." The group also discussed whether Act 181 will change local regulatory control over Additional Dwelling Units (ADUs); Birong said she would seek further clarification for the commission.
