The Board of Harvey County Commissioners adopted a proclamation declaring Jan. 18, 2026 as "Sanctity of Human Life Day and Respect for Life Day." Brent Guthrie, Executive Director of Heartland Pregnancy Care and Family Life Services, read the proclamation aloud and presented it to the commission; Don Schroeder moved to adopt the proclamation, Becky Reimer seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
The proclamation text states, among other points, that "life is to be protected by the government" and that respect for life shapes the future of the community. The adoption was a formal proclamation and did not include regulatory or budgetary action; commissioners appended signatures and the proclamation was entered into the minutes.
