Chief Engineering Officer Menard presented three construction contract awards the committee agreed to consolidate for board placement: a plaza improvements contract on the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88 between Orchard Road and Farnsworth Avenue) recommended to K5 Construction Corporation as low bidder at $24,371,303.96 for work at seven plazas; a second plaza contract on the Tri-State Tollway (159th Street to Cermak Road) recommended to F.H. Paschen/Nielsen & Associates at $29,368,238.93 for seven plazas; and an ITS and fiber optic installation contract between North Avenue and Balmoral Avenue recommended to Aldrich Electric at $9,947,717.05.
Menard said bids were competitive (the first and second bidders on one contract were separated by about 0.5 percent) and that the firms have committed to meet DBE and veteran goals. He noted that completion of the Tri-State plaza award will allow canopy work previously performed under an emergency contract to be finished under the planned contract instead.
