Attendees discussed annexation into Wallsburg as a possible local defense if a preliminary municipality application lies within the statutory proximity threshold. Organizers asked volunteers to find surveyors and legal descriptions so the town can determine whether annexation is possible and timely.
"One of the things, again, is to look at that we want a committee to really investigate is it feasible to do an annexation into Wallsburg Town, which would then turn over all governing decisions to the city as it comes to building," a moderator said. The senator suggested a compromise clause might require city approval if a development is within five miles of a municipality to preserve local involvement.
Organizers distributed application maps and asked residents with boundary knowledge to identify exact distances from Wallsburg. The committee model is intended to produce concrete annexation proposals or other legal options to present to the senator and county officials.
