Board doubles out-of-county mattress and tire rates, flags asbestos and detour concerns

Public Works Director Curtis Mader told the board the county had begun receiving out-of-county mattresses and that there was no separate out-of-county mattress rate. The board voted 4-0 to double rates for out-of-county mattresses and tires at the Butler County landfill.
Mader said staff is not comfortable accepting out-of-county asbestos and recommended handling in-county asbestos on a case-by-case basis with KDHE guidance and consultation with a remediation professional. He also reported delays on the SW Ohio St. project caused by coordination issues with Cox and Evergy, discussed concerns about county roads being used for State detours on U.S. 400, and noted a missing curve-speed sign west of Latham.
