Butler County awards 2026 liquid asphalt purchases to Ergon after one bidder withdraws

Public Works Director Curtis Mader told the Board that Butler County typically purchases about 600,000 to 800,000 gallons of liquid asphalt each year for road maintenance and the annual chip-seal program. Two suppliers submitted bids for 2026, but one bidder rescinded their submission, leaving Ergon Asphalt and Emulsions as the only responsive bidder.
Commissioner Jeff Masterson moved to award the county’s 2026 liquid asphalt purchases to Ergon at the stated prices; Commissioner Dan Woydziak seconded. The motion carried 5-0. Mader also briefed the Board on local road impacts including truck traffic on an unofficial detour route, a temporary closure of a low-water bridge, a roundabout project at SW Ohio St./SW 20th St. beginning Monday, and a NW 30th St. paving delay of roughly 30 days due to truck shortages.
