Board adds GPS wrist device option to alcohol-monitoring agreement

Butler County’s Community Corrections Director Monty Herbert and Electronic Monitoring Officer Adam Noll presented Amendment (2) to the Master Agreement with Alcohol Monitoring Systems, which adds a GPS-enabled wrist-worn monitoring device as an additional supervision option for participants who cannot wear traditional ankle devices because of work boots or equipment. Herbert told the board the device "is GPS only, is worn like a watch and monitors heart rate so removal can be identified; alcohol-monitoring devices would remain ankle-worn."
Commissioner Kelly Herzet moved to approve the amendment; Commissioner Jeff Masterson seconded and the motion carried 4-0. Staff noted the wrist-worn device is intended to improve participant compliance and accommodate work-related needs while preserving alcohol monitoring via ankle units where required.
