Commission approves $94,990 skid steer and cold planer for Road & Bridge

The Board of Harvey County Commissioners approved the purchase of a 2026 Caterpillar 255 compact track loader (skid steer) with a 24-inch cold planer attachment for $94,990 on March 3. Road & Bridge Superintendent Jim Meier presented a Sourcewell quote from Foley Equipment and said the equipment will replace a 2012 JCB currently used as a backup and for yard work.
Meier said the tracked loader will be more usable on-site than the wheeled 2012 machine and the cold planer allows the county to mill small asphalt areas and work on concrete deck edges during patching operations. Commissioner Becky Reimer moved to approve the purchase and Don Schroeder seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
Finance Director Shannon Kingsley had reported earlier that $100,000 was budgeted for this purchase in the 2026 capital plan, and Meier said the JCB will be reassigned to Courthouse Maintenance once the new machine is in service.
