Board finds Anderson Street property a public nuisance, orders demolition

At its April meeting the Abilene Board of Building Standards voted to find the property at 1741 Anderson Street a public nuisance and ordered the owner to demolish the structure or appeal the order to district court within 30 days.
Property maintenance inspector Ricky Wright presented timeline details for case 25-001890: utilities have been inactive since March 4, 2023; staff attempted contact with the owner but many numbers were out of service; liens for mowing abatements were recorded; and, after inspections, staff concluded that repair would be unreasonable and demolition was appropriate.
Mister Tankersley moved to accept the staff recommendation and Mr. Wyatt seconded. The board approved the order by roll call (Wyatt, Allred, Tankersley, McNeal, Duggar—yes). The board also ordered the owner to demolish or appeal the order within 30 days; if the owner does not act the city may demolish the structure and seek recovery of costs per board procedure.
Wright told the board he could take questions and clarified that staff had posted notices on the structure and mailed the hearing notice to property owners.
