Saint Clair County engineer Dan Dahlke to retire; Clay Phillips steps into engineering role

The Saint Clair County Commission on May 26 ratified a resolution recognizing head engineer Dan Dahlke on his upcoming retirement after more than 34 years with the county. Chairman Stan Bateman read the framed resolution, saying the county had been “fortunate in this county to have Dan as our engineer for the last many years. 30 something years.”
Commissioners and staff praised Dahlke for grant work and federal compliance that helped secure road funding. Dahlke thanked the commission at the meeting and accepted the resolution; the commission also discussed operational continuity and public contact changes as Clay Phillips assumes the engineer role. The commission will address any transitional staffing vacancies during the summer work sessions and monitor ongoing projects such as the Wolf Creek debris access and bridge detours.
