Whitingham planning commission presses for clearer housing targets and data

Commissioners asked for an updated average household size for Whitingham, clearer treatment of seasonal housing, and improved labeling and formatting of charts. Several members questioned the plan's reliance on 2020 census data for current housing needs.
The Commission requested that the Housing Needs section move from broad goal language to specific, actionable directions — for example, specifying what it means when the plan says the "town should play an active role" in housing. Commissioners discussed how regional planning commissions are breaking down statewide targets and allocating unit counts to towns; the Commission asked staff for documentation of that methodology. Margo Ghia, Natural Resources Planner, said she would send links to the Four Towns project priority sites referenced in the draft.
Commissioners did not approve the chapter at the meeting; they made edits and identified items for staff follow‑up ahead of the next draft and public outreach steps.
