Ashley Hay, the county’s asset manager for the arena and event center, reported a busy two‑week events calendar including a full pickleball camp and upcoming tournaments and suggested the county consider bringing mowing in‑house so staff could respond to event‑specific needs more flexibly.
"The schedule is so specific about when to mow, when not to mow... our first choice, of course, would be to be able to take that in house so we could always do exactly when we needed it to," Hay said. She noted costs and equipment needs if mowing were in‑house and suggested a temporary arrangement if the commission renews the contractor through the fiscal year while staff evaluates budget effects.
Hay also reported the county received a $2,500 grant for two veteran informational displays and will coordinate installation with staff. Commissioners discussed contract renewal rules and bid timelines; staff said the current mowing bid is site‑specific and can be revised when re‑bid in 2027.
