County staff recommends $20,000 pavement investigation on Veterans Parkway after rutting reported

County Engineer Clay Phillips briefed the commission on failing pavement conditions on a recently completed segment of Veterans Parkway and asked the body to authorize a geotechnical study.
"We've had a lot of truck traffic on it, and, well, it's starting to rut, quite a bit. It also stays wet in there," Phillips said, explaining that trucks traveling from the chert pit may be contributing to premature rutting. He said he had requested a Terracon proposal that would core selected locations to determine the composition and condition of the roadbed and return design recommendations.
Phillips told commissioners the Terracon work would cost $20,000 and that the coring results were necessary to scope a special project next year. Commissioners agreed the investigation should be put on the Tuesday meeting agenda for a formal decision.
