City to buy Saint Joseph Baseball Complex using general fund, commission told

Chair announced that the City of Amherst is buying the Saint Joseph Baseball Complex with money from the Amherst general fund and emphasized the purchase is not using park funds. "The city is buying the, the Saint Joseph Baseball Complex with money from the general fund from Amherst City. Nothing to do with the park funds or anything like that," the Chair said.
According to the Chair, the city council approved the sale at its previous meeting and the parties are finalizing paperwork; once the transfer is complete, park staff will manage grass and field maintenance and the city plans to install a fence between the St. Joe parking area and the fields to allow the facility to be secured. The Chair estimated closing could happen in "maybe, 2 weeks or so."
