Commission recommends rezone to allow multigenerational family parcels in Augusta area

The Planning Commission recommended approval of RZ 26-08 to rezone a 49-acre tract owned by Josh and Andrea Humig from AG-40 to Rural Residential (RR). Applicant Josh Humig said the plan is to "build a home for themselves and all of their children" and emphasized the proposal is for a multi‑generation family property rather than a speculative subdivision. The commission voted 6-0 to recommend the rezone (Griggs motion, Francis second).
Staff explained the parcel lies inside the Urban Growth Area and that rural water service will be provided to the proposed lots; private wastewater systems are planned. Commissioners discussed shared drive arrangements and the internal road right-of-way standard that would apply if a future plat is submitted. The rezone will be forwarded to the Board of County Commissioners for final action on May 26, 2026.
