Council discusses Bellevue fire contract increase, water intertie roles, and insurance for meetings in homes

Mayor Aletha Howes reported a meeting with a Bellevue Fire Department representative about the town’s contract, which expires at the end of the year. The minutes state the parties agreed to keep the same service terms but that the contract cost will increase by roughly 9% to reflect staffing and other cost increases; the City of Bellevue will notify the town of a new contract or extension and the council must vote before year-end.
Separately, Councilmember Tom Stowe said he is working with the City of Bellevue to define responsibilities for the Beaux Arts Village–Bellevue water intertie; that work may lead to an interlocal agreement and Stowe will update the council as negotiations progress. Finally, the council agreed the topic of insurance for public meetings held in private homes should be an agenda item in July; Town Attorney Linehan will be invited because of the legal implications.
No formal votes or interlocal agreements were approved at the June meeting; these items remain under staff and council review.
