The Benbrook City Council voted unanimously on July 16 to approve a $150,000 storm-sewer CCTV assessment and GIS contract with Friese Nichols Inc. to televise and map storm sewer pipe ahead of planned paving projects.
Public Service Director Bennett Howell described the project scope and rationale: the consultant will televise up to 50,000 feet of storm sewer pipe in the Bembroke Lakeside and West Park areas, enter the findings into the city's database, and prepare a memo summarizing results so recurring repairs can be bundled into contracts. "Fortunately, in the 22,000 feet that we have videoed, none of the pipes were broken, completely or plugged up," Howell said.
Howell showed photos of point repairs (a bore through a pipe, a hole and a crack) and said crews plan to identify and combine point repairs into a contract to keep per-site costs down. Councilmember Tyner moved to approve the assessment and GIS contract with Friese Nichols Inc. for $150,000; Mr. Reagan seconded; the council approved the motion unanimously.
