Benbrook approves interlocal agreement with Fort Worth ISD for four full-time school resource officers

The Benbrook City Council unanimously approved an interlocal agreement on July 16 to provide four full-time school resource officers (SROs) to Fort Worth Independent School District campuses located in Benbrook.
Rosie Gonzalez, administrative manager for the Benbrook Police Department, explained the SROs serve as liaisons between the department and the schools and are the primary enforcement personnel responsible for incidents on school property. "Fort Worth Independent School District reimburses the city for 50% of the salary, benefits, overtime, and training costs associated with each assigned officer," Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez added that during school holidays and summer break the officers perform regular patrol duties. Mrs. Mackey moved to approve the interlocal agreement as presented; Mr. Tyner seconded and the motion carried unanimously. The agreement authorizes assignment of SROs to Western Hills High School, Benbrook Middle High School, Benbrook Elementary School and West Park Elementary School.
