Bel Air council OKs $98,704 replacement for totaled marked police vehicle; insurance covers portion

Police Chief Jason Hester told the council the ordinance authorizes the purchase of a replacement marked police vehicle following a total loss. Chief Hester said the city will receive insurance proceeds of $35,728.13 and the replacement vehicle price is $98,704.09; the agency intends to fund the remainder from the vehicle equipment and technology fund. "This will be fully outfitted, with the ballistic glass and everything that's required," the chief said.
Councilmembers asked about fiscal treatment and vehicle turnaround time. Hester said replacement vehicles are typically procured through a Texas interlocal purchasing system vendor to leverage buying power and that delivery and full outfitting is expected to take about six months. Council approved the ordinance by unanimous voice/hand vote; the motion was moved and seconded on the record.
