Council staff presented details of the road maintenance fund and a multi-year pavement-assessment plan during the FY2027 budget discussion. Julie said the road fund is financed by a 0.375% sales tax reauthorized by voters every four years and that sales-tax revenue for the fund is budgeted to increase 6% (from roughly $875,000 to $927,500).
She identified a $1,400,000 capital outlay in the draft budget: "the $1,400,000 that you see that we're spending this year is the repaving of Bee Cave Parkway between 71 and 620," Julie said. The repaving is part of a five-year pavement-assessment plan; staff said rebudgeting is required because some first-year work was not completed and must be carried into next fiscal year, increasing the planned pavement allocation to about $3.4 million for the incomplete first-year work.
A council member questioned differences between budgeted amounts and actual spending in prior years; Julie explained the timing and rebudgeting caused the apparent delta and said current-year spending is expected to align with projections. The road maintenance fund will also cover routine items such as striping, signage, guardrail and sidewalk repairs.
