Staff recommends Option 1b for Bee Cave Central Park to add parking and an accessway; cost estimated near $3.7M

A staff presenter told the board the Central Park infrastructure update narrowed several alternatives to a recommended Option 1b that would extend an accessway, provide additional parking and improve pedestrian safety and egress from the park.

The presenter described the chosen alternative as adding approximately 78 parking spaces and extending roadway/access about "2,300 or 2,400 linear feet" in one passage and later described the access as "about 2,800 feet or so, plus or minus." The staff presenter said the estimated construction cost for Option 1b was approximately $3,751,000, while Option 1a — a version that would not extend the roadway over the creek — was estimated at about $3,600,000. The presenter summarized the recommendation as selecting the roughly $3.7 million option because it "gives a lot more access for the park, improves traffic and vehicular access flow and increases pedestrian safety as well."

The presenter said the project will next go to City Council for adoption, then return to the development corporation for final action; staff reported they have commented on the preliminary final engineering report and expect the item to be wrapped up in a short period of time. Board members asked clarifying questions about alignment, traffic flow (including a one‑way out at the creek crossing to discourage cut‑through traffic) and the recommendation from the city engineer, Andy Rook. No final funding action was taken by the development corporation at this meeting.
