The Bedford Zoning Board of Adjustments opened a public hearing on a special-exemption request for a short-term rental at 1305 Shumack Lane but did not act after staff identified a typographical error in the public notice.
Wes Morrison, the city’s director of development, told the board: "given the information regarding the typo on the public notice, we are not gonna be able to act on this item tonight. So we will have to re-notify and schedule another public hearing." He said by law mailed notice must go to property owners within 200 feet of the subject property.
The board had reviewed staff materials and heard applicant testimony and multiple public comments before Morrison’s statement. Chair (name not specified in the record) moved to adjourn after the staff recommendation that the hearing be continued; a motion to adjourn was seconded and approved on voice vote.
Next steps: staff said the item will be re-noticed by mail to owners within 200 feet and the earliest possible date would be the board’s next regular meeting in July, tentatively July 15, pending board availability and corrected notice mailings. No final decision on the exemption was made at the session.
