Bryant Park CIP work paused while city, school district discuss land options

Joseph Cotton, Director of Public Works, told the board that Bryant Park is on hold in the CIP process while the city continues discussions with the school district over a possible land trade or other property arrangement. “As you may know, that that was originally dedicated to the city by the school district,” he said, and staff were advised to wait for the outcome of those conversations before proceeding with additional design work.
Cotton said past investments have not resolved playability challenges: fields can harden and crack in dry weather and become difficult to play on after weather extremes. He said staff are exploring whether funds allocated for Bryant Park could be redirected to other park opportunities if an exchange moves forward, and promised to return to the board with updates once there is a clearer path forward.
