Selectmen send seven surplus appropriations to town meeting, including truck and park funds

At the June 30 meeting the Board of Selectmen read and approved motions to move a package of surplus appropriations to town meeting for final action. The motions covered a range of capital and maintenance needs: $1,000,000 to start landscape architectural work at Sabre Point; $288,391 to purchase a new Freightliner truck for public works; $42,000 to address drainage behind the transfer station; $15,000 for Big Belly trash receptacles; $20,000 for invasive species control in town parks; and $10,000 for a municipal brand launch.
The board also approved moving to town meeting a request to transfer $400,000 from the employee benefit reserve: $350,000 would go to the long-term liability fund and $50,000 to a grant-related projects fund for engineering and construction administration. Each motion was seconded and the board recorded the ayes necessary to place the appropriation questions on the town meeting warrant for formal approval.
