Selectmen advance DPW garage bond for town meeting and referendum

The Board of Selectmen on June 30 moved forward a resolution to place a bond authorization for the Department of Public Works garage on the town meeting warrant and, ultimately, the referendum. Greg Musch, an architect with Fireworks Architects, outlined plans to retain part of the existing structure, add a new storage bay, locker and shower facilities, and create enclosed storage for town vehicles.
Musch said the consultant's cost estimate was "about 6,200,000 for the whole project," with an 8.4% contingency built into that figure. He also told the board the firm expects construction would take roughly "8 to 10 months" once documents are complete. Board members questioned capacity for large vehicles, temporary relocation during construction and environmental constraints near wetlands; public works staff said all necessary equipment except one grinder would be accommodated and described winterization and staging plans.
The board approved a motion to recommend an appropriation of up to $6,200,000 for reconstruction and a bond authorization not to exceed $5,200,000, and directed staff to move the question to town meeting (which can adjourn to referendum). Chair (speaker 1) called the vote and members responded in the affirmative.
