A letter from Jack Pergosa, read aloud by department staff, praised a detective and an officer for professional conduct during traffic stops, saying, "Detective Simpson has pulled me over a couple times during the past few months… courteous, composed, respectful, and professional." The reader told commissioners Pergosa wanted the chief to know that the interactions left him confident in the department.
Commissioners and staff described the July events — two parades and other community gatherings — as labor-intensive operations that required early staging and extra staffing. Staff said they hired eight additional officers for the weekend and thanked bike-patrol officers and volunteers for covering multiple beach and parade locations.
Commissioners noted the visible presence and community outreach value of the deployments and encouraged continued post-event outreach. The department plans a community safety-education series beginning Aug. 6 and other outreach events to build on that engagement.
