Abilene airport reports snow-closure, sees February ridership rebound

Don gave the airport’s operational update, saying the facility closed for the snow-and-ice event on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 and reopened at 2 p.m. the following Monday after intensive staff work. "Our maintenance superintendent, Monte Murillo, was there for about 36 hours straight," Don said, and staff shortages included one injured worker who was hospitalized and later OK.
Despite the disruption, Don said January’s load factor was 71% and February climbed to 84%, which he called "very encouraging" for the year; enplanements were up 6% for February and parking revenue rose about 21.9% year-to-date. He thanked operations and maintenance staff and noted the airport had one maintenance position posted to fill.
