Board hears legislative changes affecting funeral and cemetery services including breastfeeding protections and cemetery rules

Executive Director Stephanie McGee reported to the Board on three bills passed during the 2025 legislative session that affect funeral and cemetery operations.
McGee said Assembly Bill 266 prohibits discrimination against breastfeeding and explicitly includes funeral parlors among public services covered by the law. Assembly Bill 350 addresses cemetery maintenance and clarifies disinterment requirements tied to court orders with certain exceptions. Assembly Bill 349 authorizes non-transplant tissue procurement organizations to transport a body or part of a body when medical equipment is needed to preserve donation viability.
Board members noted the implications for operations and for communicating compliance requirements to licensees; McGee said she would provide more information as needed.
