Board places McDermott’s permit on probation, bars managing privileges and imposes $15,000 fine for operating at unapproved Decatur location

Executive Director Stephanie McGee presented a screenshot of McDermott’s website and supporting documents that listed the Decatur address. Inspector Wayne Fazzino reported seeing a woman leave the Decatur location with branded bags and observed staff meeting with a family during an inspection. City of Las Vegas staff told the Board that a special use permit would be required for a funeral home at that address and that a city-issued funeral administrator business license does not authorize conducting funeral services at an unpermitted facility.
Board members unanimously found violations of statutes and regulations including provisions that prohibit advertising or representing a location as an operating funeral establishment before Board approval and that prohibit conducting business at an unapproved location. After initial votes and additional deliberation about the practical impact on Mr. Grant’s livelihood, the Board adopted a final disciplinary package placing both the funeral establishment permit and Grant’s funeral director license on probation for two years, prohibiting him from serving as a managing funeral director during probation, and requiring payment of $15,000 in fines and attorney fees up to $2,000 to be paid during the probationary period.
Mr. Grant acknowledged errors with website content and said staff may have scheduled appointments without his knowledge; he apologized and described corrective steps but maintained he had helped families during the period in question. The Board relied on evidence of operations at the Decatur address and advertising materials to reach its determination.
Board staff will update licensing records and monitor compliance with probation conditions.
