Assistant City Manager Ethan Cox told the council the program offers a subsidized fare of about $2.50 per one-way trip and that the city’s annual budgeted cost to participate is $7,529. Cox said the program typically serves about 1,400 participants a year and estimated the city’s cost per ride would be roughly $5.25 at those participation levels.
A councilmember moved to approve participation and Councilmember Mackey seconded; the chair opened the vote and announced the motion carried unanimously. The meeting transcript records the mover misstating a large figure during the spoken motion; staff’s presentation and the written agenda showed the city's annual participation cost as $7,529, and the council approved the agreement on that basis.
The approved participation continues the city’s existing arrangement that guarantees two days per week of service for Benbrook residents; additional rides on non-guaranteed days are available subject to availability and priority by other participating cities. The agreement will be incorporated into the city’s budget as an annual operating expense.
