Benbrook honors Lemonade Day winners; committee reports local fundraising and student participation

Tammy Cawthon, who organized Benbrook’s Lemonade Day, told the City Council on June 4 that the local event trained dozens of young entrepreneurs and yielded both learning outcomes and local fundraising. “In 2025, the nationwide event generated $11,200,000,” Cawthon said, and she reported the Benbrook effort collected $7,104 across the city and that the committee raised $25,000 in cash and in-kind support for scholarships and community charities.
Cawthon said the program trained 319 children in Benbrook-area schools, supported 33 stands on event day and awarded winners $100 savings bonds; she said the committee plans to donate $4,000 to local nonprofits. Students who participated described building booths and learning profit-and-loss skills. One winner said, “I had a fantastic time... I learned a lot about profit and loss.”
The presiding official presented two mayor’s awards, identifying “Blockhead” as the best business plan and “Lucky Ducks” as the best marketing and advertising. The mayor praised volunteers, sponsors and school partners and noted the city’s role in supporting community-led youth programming. Photos with winners followed the recognition.
Councilmembers and volunteers thanked teachers and partners who helped run training sessions and stand locations, including Fort Worth ISD personnel and local businesses that provided mentorship and stand sites.
