Jackie Giorgio, the Council liaison to the Planning & Zoning Commission, reported on a recent council economic development presentation and summarized the themes for commissioners: consider easing parking restrictions to support redevelopment, explore land assembly including reusing public rights-of-way to aggregate oddly shaped parcels, use façade improvements as near-term steps, and study special-district tools (PIDs) for longer-term strategies.
Giorgio also said FEMA has revised floodplain maps that may come out soon and could influence where redevelopment is feasible. She told commissioners the next step is moving from report to implementation and that staff and council will discuss short-term (facade improvements) and longer-term (PID/special district) strategies during the budget process.
