Resident urges ordinance to ban e-bikes from sidewalks after near-collision

Demetrius Papanasil, a resident of Villages of Hurricane Creek, told the council he was backing out of his driveway when a speeding e-bike forced the rider off the sidewalk and across his lawn.
"E bikes can travel up to 28 miles per hour," Papanasil said. "Sidewalks are really designated for walking." He said his HOA sent notices about unsafe operation and recommended calling police; the officer who responded told him an officer must witness speeding to take action. Papanasil asked the council to consider an ordinance restricting e-bikes from sidewalks.
The council did not take immediate action on the proposal during the meeting; the item was raised during the public comment period for future consideration.
