City leaders from Amarillo convened a facilitated strategic workshop to align on near-term priorities and improve how the council and staff work together. The session centered on establishing clarity—participants repeatedly returned to the need for a shared mission so the city can make consistent decisions about infrastructure, staffing and budgeting. The facilitator told the group: "The future is calling. Tomorrow is calling to the city of Amarillo leadership." (Moderator, S1)
Workshop participants sketched a 3–5 year destination that includes better core services, housing availability and a regional reputation as a hub for commerce and services. Staff and council agreed to follow up with a prioritized set of pillars before the next budget cycle and to produce a short debrief and next steps document. "We could document this for citizens, it's in the minutes, or it's for the next council," the facilitator said, urging the group to make their assessment public and durable (Moderator, S1).
