County grants utility permits for underground fiber and overhead power line

Shekel explained the Preston Telephone Company request: "They're proposing just to bore an underground fiber optic to serve the address, 34950 42nd Street," and recommended approval because the work will be bored to the edge of the right of way and poses no issues. The board moved and approved the permit.
Shekel next presented a permit for Maquoketa Valley Electric Cooperative to install an overhead power line in South Fork Township (Section 5, 93rd Street) to serve a residence; the poles would be placed at or slightly inside the right of way. The engineer recommended approval and the board granted the permit.
Both motions carried by voice vote; the engineer's office will monitor coordination and pole placement as work proceeds.
