Board reopens Morehead Bridge, approves FY27 road plan and destination-lighting contract

County engineer Jaden Shekel presented transportation items and the board approved each on March 10.
Shekel told the board that repairs to the Morehead Bridge (Bridgemont 1331) are complete and recommended a resolution to reopen the structure to a 15‑ton weight restriction. "Last year when it closed, we had a resolution to close it. Well, now that the repairs have been made and the bridge is open, we should have a official resolution to reopen the bridge back to its 15 ton weight restriction," Shekel said. The board approved Resolution 11‑72‑03‑10‑2026 to reopen the bridge.
Shekel also described the FY27 five‑year County Five‑Year Program (CFYP) and budget, noting the DOT reviewed and approved the submission on March 4 with minimal comments; the board approved the CFYP and associated budget (Resolution 11‑73‑03‑10‑2026). Finally, Shekel presented two destination‑lighting projects and reported competitive bids; the low bidder was Beechler Electric of Dubuque and the board approved awarding the destination‑lighting project to Beechler.
Board members discussed a list of remaining unlit intersections and the possibility of budgeting to finish the set in future fiscal years.
