The Jackson County Board of Supervisors on March 10 approved multiple personnel actions in the sheriff’s and corrections departments.
At the meeting Vicky Chapin asked the board to accept the resignation of full‑time corrections officer Sarah Knight effective March 13, 2026. "I would ask for a motion to accept the resignation from full time correction officer Sarah Knight effective 03/13/2026," Chapin said. The board moved and the motion carried.
The board also approved moving Jonathan Hines from PRN status to full time effective March 13, 2026. Chapin then presented a hiring recommendation for Neil Dolphin as a full‑time sheriff’s deputy, effective March 4, 2026, at an hourly rate of $35.44 and asked the auditor to implement payroll adjustments. "I would ask for a motion to approve the hiring of Neil Dolphin as a full time sheriff's deputy effective 03/04/2026 at an hourly rate of $35.44," Chapin said; the motion passed and the board approved a three‑month probationary certificate for Dolphin through June 4, 2026.
The board also accepted the retirement notice of part‑time security officer Kurt Gruber, effective Feb. 20, 2026, and agreed to send a certificate of appreciation for his 6.5 years of service. Following the votes, chair Don Smacker and other members thanked departing staff and moved on to the next agenda items.
The motions were made and carried on the floor during the regular session; the transcript records the board approving each item but does not list individual vote-by-name tallies in the record.
