Council approves seasonal street closure for Cody Gunslingers reenactments with conditions

The Cody City Council approved a request from the Cody Gunslingers to conduct nightly western reenactment performances on 12th Street between Sheridan Avenue and the first alley south, running June 8 through Sept. 15, subject to required insurance and documentation.
Jason Staffer (staff reference) told the council he had been in contact with the group’s representative, Mr. Lasser, who expected to provide the outstanding paperwork at the group’s next meeting. Staff noted the permit language previously allowed a designated safety manager to participate as a nightly performer and said the city could remove that language from future documents if the council preferred. “I have no problem with it,” staff told council about the safety-manager participation option.
The request included operational conditions for staged discharges and use of blunted or sharp objects, provided props remain at least 10 feet from the audience. Council approved the closure and the operational conditions; approval was contingent on receipt of insurance and other required documentation to the chief of police prior to the first performance.
