Luke Hopkin (speaker 9), who spoke for the organizers, described the event as a multi-part program tied to the America 2 50 celebration. “The event is free and open to the public,” Hopkin said, and explained the logistics: 40,000 pounds of nonperishable food will be delivered earlier in the week to a private sorting location, transferred to Beck Avenue on June 26, and distributed to 12 community partners (Hopkin cited local partners including Cody Cupboard and Mana House). Organizers plan a drive-through setup to minimize traffic impact and asked to use existing 30-amp electrical receptacles at the band shell to power an approximately 8-by-14-foot screen for a live-streamed Tabernacle Choir broadcast.
Council members asked staff to confirm whether those meter-base receptacles could be used on city property; Hopkin said staff and public-works contact (Eric AC) had not flagged an issue but the organizers would clear the outlet with the public-works department before the event. The council approved the street closure and event request by motion.
